What is the PharmD - Clinical Pharmacy Program, Faculty of Pharmacy, Cairo University?

The Clinical Pharmacy Program is a private credit hour program that aims to graduate a clinical pharmacist familiar with all the requirements of the profession and with the latest branches of clinical pharmacy, in order to qualify the graduate to participate effectively in the health care system.

What are the main roles of clinical pharmacists?

  • The clinical pharmacist works directly with doctors and other members of the medical team to ensure that the medications prescribed to the patient will have the best impact on the patient’s health, and this contributes to the coordination of health care provided to patients.
  • Evaluate the patient's overall health problems and determine if the prescribed medications meet the treatment needs and ensure that there are no conflicts between the medications prescribed for his condition with any other medications he uses regularly.
  • Determination if the patient's health problems could be improved with the drug therapy.
  • Follow up the effect of the drugs on the patient's health and its compatibility with any other medications prescribed before.
  • Coordination with physicians and other medical service providers in selecting suitable types of drugs for the patient's needs.
  • Advising the patient on the best way to take the prescribed medications.
  • Supporting the health care team in teaching the directing the patient toward other important steps to maintain health.
  • Directing the patient to his treating physician or any other individual in the health field to address any health or social issues that may affect the safety of his health.
